Hello climbers!

I’m back for an announcement!

This Saturday the sport national championship will take place in Amsterdam. It is the time of the year to witness the best 20 competition climbers in action and I’m one of the performers 😀 The tickets are sold out. But no worries, livestream is available for those who want to tune in.

The reason why I was off the grid was due to a knee injury. Fortunately I recovered from that injury and I have been training like Patxi for the past few months. That means pushing limits while carrying extra weights. I love the transition from bouldering to lead climbing. Anyway, yesterday was my final training and I can’t wait to go a muerte on Saturday!

Update for the provisional program:
19.30h start women’s final
20.45h start men’s final
22.30h price ceremony

I will be in action around 21.10h. Wish me luck! See you on Saturday 😀

It has been 5 years since I competed in all the national boulder comps and fought for the title in the nationals. Since then I participated in just 1 or 2 national boulder qualifications each year. However, this year I wanted to take part in all the comps in order to qualify once again for the nationals.

The line up of the competitions:
Boulder 1: Cube – 10th
Boulder 2: Sterk – 9th
Boulder 3: Bolder – 8th
Boulder 4: Monk – 7th

In general the boulder problems were creative, fun and sometimes more challenging than I thought. Unfortunately there were also some boulders with reachy moves, which did not suit me.

Every time I could have been in the finals, but I made too many mistakes. I’m glad I improved gradually and collected enough points to join the biggest competition of the year: the national championship boulder 2016!
I have been counting down the days and today will be the big day to perform.

The program for the event in Amsterdam:
10.30h Venue open for climbers and audience (free entrance)
11.00-11.30h Isolation females open
12.15h Start semi finals females
13.20-13.50h Isolation males open
13.50h End semi finals females
15.00h Start semi finals males
16.40h End semi finals males
16.55h Results semi finals
17.00h Venue closed for audience
19.00h Venue open for audience (entrance € 15,-)
19.30-19.45h Isolation finalists open
20.30h Presentation finalists and prep time
20.45h Start Finals NC Boulder 2016
23.15h Price ceremony

Unfortunately there is no live stream for the semi finals, but at 20.30h you can tune in for the live stream of the finals!

I’m one of the 12 participants and will start climbing the semi finals at 15.00h. Hopefully the boulders will be fun for me. I’ll keep my fingers crossed. Let’s see if I can make it to the finals this time 😉

Anyway, I will enjoy my day and hope to see you in Amsterdam!!

Put this date November 28th in your calendar, it will be excited! NC Lead, get your tickets here.

NKBVAs some of you may already know, I am no longer part of the Dutch Climbing Team. But since I’m still getting the random question every now and then asking me what happened, I thought I’d take some time now to tell you all the story behind it.

Last month, I had a conversation with coach Wally about my performance with the team for 2012. I always feel in good form during training, but it doesn’t seem to reflect with my results on the actual competition. I really wanted to give it my all during the National Championships, but with me just recovering from my knee injury, there really isn’t much that I can do. Then there was the recently announced budget cuts by the NOC*NSF. Sportsclimbing will receive less financial aid starting this year. This means a leaner Dutch climbing team with a focus on developing young talent.

I myself have thought about giving up my position on the team a number of times last year. I feel like I’ve reached a certain point where I need to choose a new direction for my life. So when the coach told me I was being cut from the program, it didn’t took me much to accept his decision. It has been a great 3 years being part of the Dutch Climbing Team. I got to train with some of the best talents our sport has produced and I was able to meet other great athletes from all parts of the globe. I’ll also never forget the friendships I was able to make within the team and that special feeling of working together towards a same goal. So I say a deep and heartful thank you to everyone for allowing me to be a part of this. And I wish the future members good luck and hope they will have the same awesome experience that I had.

Of course I won’t stop climbing. I may be ready to take on new challenges with my life but I won’t be turning my back on climbing just like that. Its a sport I truly love and enjoy. You may even see me in a few more competitions. We will see. But its over and out for now.

Yesss here I’m back again. I just returned from a dinner at Mechelen (BEL) with Nikki, Tabitha, Elko and Wouter. We are sleeping here in a hotel at Mechelen. I ran into Jain Kim (room next to me) and also some Austrians are sleeping in the same hotel. It will be a cozy breakfast tomorrow!

We are here because we’ll compete tomorrow (Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd of September) in a worldcup at Puurs. It is the 4th lead worldcup this year.

Tomorrow I’ll compete and start as climber number 15 in my first route and 35th in my second qualification route.

With a total of 39 competitors it is a whole different field compared to last week in France. There will be a lot of strong climbers, so I hope the routes will be really cool.

According the program the routes will start from 11.00 AM till 17.00 hours. I suppose I’ll climb around noon 12.00 o’clock in my first route!

I’m really psyched!! Come support us at Puurs. Or else you can watch at home via the livestream or at the official Flanders Worldcup Puurs webpage!

I’m heading off to bed. Goodnight from Belgium and see you tomorrow!
