Today we climbed routes in Wupperwände at Germany.

We left Eindhoven with 2 cars. I joined Vera, Teun and Bob. Wouter was driving ahead with Elko and Tabitha in the back. After 2 hours of driving we finally arrived at the climbing gym.

Finally arrived.

Wupperwände

We haven’t visited this climbing gym for a while. I felt like climbing lots of routes, it just feels good. Boulder member Casper and Ferdinand were already present.

Our goal for today was to climb at least 10 routes, of which 3 difficult onsight routes. This was a realistic goal, however we were having an uneven team.

I quickly changed my clothes, grabbed my harness and climbing shoes and started climbing. After 4 routes I decided to go for a difficult onsight route. I felt good and wasn’t pumped yet. Climbing in different climbing gyms every week makes me feel comfortable here.

Wouter told me how I could improve myself. One of his suggestions was about quickdraws. I shouldn’t clip quickdraws too fast, only clip quickdraws when I’m in a good position. In sum I climbed 8 routes. I didn’t achieve my goal, however I climbed with 2 team members, which is not that efficient.

Even Ferdinand felt like climbing routes!

It was nice to receive feedback from my coach. In the upcoming weeks I’ll continue visiting other climbing gyms. I have less than a month to get in shape. Next month I’ll compete in 2 international competitions. I’m so looking forward to it!

Thursday afternoon Jort Veen, one of my sponsors, and I left The Netherlands to visit Italy. We felt like having a short holiday. It was only a matter of realising our plans.

Next day we were tired of all that driving. The weather was good, it was 29 degrees Celcius. What do you do when it’s so hot? Seek water of course. We went to this nice lake Lago di Cavedine to relax at the water.

Temperature: 29 degrees, water: 15 degrees

It was so quiet. So cool, we definitely had a good time.

Later on we went to visit Arco for nice pizza’s and icecreams. We bought icecreams at several places, however only one can be the best. Tarifa Gelateria definitely sells the best icecream. Marco, thank you for the free icecream. I enjoyed it a lot!

Furthermore I climbed very little. I think I climbed 8 routes, divided over 4 days.

We ran into lots of cyclists in Italy. We even got blocked by the organisation when we were on our way to a lake. Well, we had a nice time supporting them to kill our time.

Obviously as you can see I climbed very little and don’t even have a climbing picture. This time I just felt like a mini holiday at Italy. It was unforgettable. Jort, thank you for the nice time.

Lately I have been busy with team training, climbing at different climbing gyms, work and other hobbies. My schedule seems quite busy. I noticed that I haven’t been climbing outdoors much this year. It’s time to change that fact.

My journey is already planned on this map. I just need to make it happen!

On my way to Arco, Italy

Right now the climbing season looks dull to me.

August brings no lead competitions for me. I don’t have much to report but I just spotted a cool footage of the last boulder Worldcup from this season. The footage is fairly recent, it took place last weekend at Munich. I wasn’t present however I’d like to share it with you.

Have a great time.

As usual we conduct a team training on Tuesday afternoon at Monk Bouldergym.

Nothing out the ordinary right? I push the doorbell with my right thumb and 2 seconds later Capsle opens the door for me. I enter the gym and it feels cool. On the competition wall I see Wally, Capsle and Vera setting new boulders. Awesome! Besides the usual nice circuits, there are new projects on the wall.

After I shot a picture of the wall, Tim Reuser and Michiel Nieuwenhuijsen enters the gym. We warm up proper for half an hour and then make up boulders for each other between 6b and 7c.

We also give a few shots on the new boulders in the competition wall. Tim and I are going for a lead training on the training wall while the rest conduct a boulder training. I focus on short resistance today: 30 movements, 3 times in a row.

That went quite well and the training is finished for today. Thursday afternoon we’ll have another training session. I’m already looking forward to it!
